The sugar used to produce these confections for you is produced by the Kasinthula Cane Growers Association. Through the hard work and perseverance of these farmers, villages such as Kapasule have gained their own water supply of safe, clean water paid for by their Fairtrade premium. Before that, women and children had to carry water each day in containers from a well situated 1.5km from their village.

Trade is a powerful tool for economic growth; however it can also feed massive inequalities. By buying Fairtrade products you are helping to improve the livelihoods and well being of producers in developing countries. Fairtrade producers receive a guaranteed fair price, plus a Fairtrade premium for farmers to invest in business improvements, community development or environmental projects.

Your buying power makes a difference to the lives of many people throughout the world. By choosing Fairtrade you are voicing your opinion to protect human rights and supporting social justice.

Our company is pleased that we are increasing our purchases from the 3rd world countries, thereby guaranteeing that the money paid actually reaches the source from which the supply emanates. Greenock has a long and proud history of trade with every corner of the world. Our Buchanan’s brand started exactly 150 years ago so we were possibly buying sugar from the great, great grandfathers of our present supplier and we’re pleased to continue this tradition.
